Dodgeball Is Now On Wednesdays

The weekly Dodgeball event at Grace Community Church is now switching to Wednesdays from 2:30pm-5pm. Hope that’s not too inconvenient for everyone. Come and bring your friends!

Good Friday Bonfire

31 03 2010

We’re getting together at 6pm on Friday night (April 2, 2010), somewhat spontaneously, for a Bonfire at the Simmons’ home. The address is 421 11th Street, right behind Mama Rosa’s Italian Restaurant. Anyone is welcome to come. We’ll light up a small bonfire (more like a camp fire), listen to some music, and we’ll just enjoy eachothers’ company. It’ll be a good time for fun and fellowship and we will also have a short devotional in remembrance of Good Friday.

Call Wes at the church office (760)789-3348 if you have any questions.

Youthwork Project

15 03 2010

This year, in order to raise money for Summer Camp, the youth will be undertaking the Youthwork fund-raising project. Students will be offering their services in anything from babysitting, to yard-work, to daily household chores. If you have a project or set of chores that need to be done around your house, at your business, or in your car and you would like to support the youth of our church, then sign-up in the narthex or call Wes at the church office 760-789-3348. After you sign up—letting us know who you are and what you need done—you can expect a call from a student who wants to work for you. Between you and the student, you can find the most convenient time for them to come and work. Since this is a fund-raiser, we’re suggesting a minimum of $10 per hour for the work, which you will pay to the student upon its’ completion.

This project puts the fund raising responsibility even more in the hands of the students. Please sign-up in the narthex if you would like to participate in supporting our youth!

High School Movie Night

9 03 2010

On March 12, 2010 all Senior High Youth (grades 9-12) are invited to a Movie Night at the Church Youth Building from 6-9pm. We’ll eat dinner, watch a movie, and maybe talk about Youth Sunday (which is on April 11th). This will be a good event to bring friends to and it’ll just be a good night to hang out together and enjoy each other’s company. The movie is, as usual, a surprise (don’t worry parents, we’ll keep it at either a very decent PG-13 or PG movie)  and the food will be from La Cocina, so bring your appetite! We’re asking for $2 per person which is a pretty good deal! Snacks will also be provided.

Don’t forget to bring your friends!

Jr. High Boomers Update

8 03 2010

On Saturday, March 6th, the Junior High Youth went for a day of fun and fellowship at Boomers in El Cajon. We met at the church kitchen at 1pm and headed down the hill for El Cajon. Now, if you remember that day, it wasn’t the sunniest day we’ve ever had in San Diego. We knew that there was a good chance that rain was waiting for us down in El Cajon, especially since the rain had already been threatening Ramona. So our plan was to see how the weather was and if it was bad we were going to go to the mall and see a movie.

When we arrived in El Cajon it was overcast but there wasn’t any rain. So we went to Boomers and had a blast… for a while… at about 4pm the rain came and we were getting soaked. So we decided to pack up and head to the mall after all. We got movie tickets and saw Alice in Wonderland which turned out to be a great movie. By the time the movie was over it was time to head for In-N-Out and then back home t the church. We arrived back at the church at about 8:45pm.

Though the rain altered our plans, we had a great time, perhaps an even better time than we may have had without the rain. It was a day filled with good fellowship and even better conversations.

Lazer Tag and Bowling Update

1 03 2010

On Saturday, February 27th, the Middle and High School youth got together for some Bowling and Laser Tag. We met at the church kitchen, to escape the rain, and at 4pm we left for El Cajon. A total of 31 students joined us on this trip including several new visitors. We barely had enough seats to transport all of us.  We stopped at the food court in the mall for some dinner and then finally arrived at the Boardwalk where Laser Tag awaited our arrival. We had to wait a while to get started but that was fine by us because the arcade was fun in itself. We played arcade games and Laser Tag for about two hours before it was time to bowl. We got our shoes and our 5 lanes early and enjoyed ourselves for about an hour and a half. Some of us took a very competitive approach to the game while others… a more ‘experimental’ approach… but everyone had a great time in fellowship and fun! The students all had an awesome time, they treated each other well, and the night was a success. We arrived home at the church just before 11pm.

Special thanks to Tomi Hayes, Tammy Blanck, Audra Brewer, Amanda Bidwell, Dave Schuler, Marissa Ciuzak, Doug and Lisa Abbott, and Vicky Simmons for driving and helping run the event! Also thanks to Dolores and Hal Mortier and to Mitch and Nancy Burch for letting us borrow your vehicles!
